About the Artist

Karl Gatermann

The artist was born in 1909, in Dessau, Germany. In his home-town he attended the School of Arts and Graphics with Prof. Danz, Prof. Gropius, Prof. Kandinsky, Prof. Klee and Prof. Ferninger (“Bauhaus”). For further studies, he went to Munich and attended the Academy of Fine Arts with Prof. Angelo Jack, Prof. Arnold Schinnerer, and Prof. Max Mayrshofer. He had a special liking for portrait-nude paintings and landscapes and last but not least for scenery. Besides his excellent oil paintings, he does etchings, wood carvings, and fresco-pictures. His great talent and gift has been very much appreciated and in his home-city he won a first prize. His works are to be seen at many exhibitions in and outside the country and have been also bought very often by public institutions. They are, for instance, in the possession of the municipal administration of Dessau, of the cultural ministry, and the “Haus der Kunst” of Munich.
